Unfortunately the producers didn’t count on their being significantly more vocal Dean fans amassed during that time and so when Kripke left they changed the dynamic, making Dean the hero. It’s the only thing that explains the extreme OOC season 8 Sam not looking for Dean and the 4 seasons of his getting beat down for it. Sam being written as wrong for being angry for being tricked
